Our parish office received the following notice that Sr. Julaine Meyer is celebrating her 70th Jubilee. Sr. Julaine is from Antwerp and still has many friends and family in our area.

SISTER JULAINE MEYER recently celebrated her 70 year jubilee and renewed the vows of her profession as a Sister of St. Agnes in Fond du Lac, WI. where she is a resident of Nazareth Court and Center, the CSA retirement nursing home.
She was baptized Lucille Meyer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Antwerp, Ohio, born to Joseph and Edna (Reinhart) Meyer. Her siblings include Agnes Timbrook and the late Donald, Eugene and Ann Meyer.

She attended school through grade six in Antwerp, then her family relocated to Defiance, where she attended St. John Catholic School and Defiance High School.
"By the time I was to enter seventh grade, my parents were able to move the family to Defiance, where we were given the opportunity to attend a Catholic school. Those years provided additional nourishment for my spiritual life. Because the Sisters of St. Agnes were teachers at the St. John School, I was connected to a community of women religious who helped me further discern a calling I had known since second grade."

She entered the formation program for the Sisters of St. Agnes on Sept. 12, 1953, from St. John Parish. After one year of candidature and two years in the novitiate, she was professed August 15, 1956 and received her new name of Sister Julaine. She pronounced final vows August 15, 1962.

Throughout her life until her retirement, she has served as a teaacher, principal, parish organist, program director, pastoral leader, administrative coordinator and in other positions at parishes and Catholic schools.

"My first mission at Altoona, PA was a large house with many sisters. It was a practice in June for the sisters from the area to come to the Altoona house for days of retreat at the end of the school year. Being the youngest in the house, I was placed in charge of the hospitality. As I greeted the sisters at the door and gave them their retreat schedule, one of the sisters who had been professed for fifty years thanked me and then told me. "I am going to the chapel now to pray for perservance in my vocation." I was struck by her words, thinking she has been a Sister for this long and still prays for perservance! To this day, I remember her words and follow her example."

"As I approach the completion of 70 years as a Sister of Saint Agnes, I am grateful for my family, church, rural roots and the many people who have become a part of my living. Precious moments include the ability to laugh, knowing that we walk on sacred ground. I am aware that the mystery of every day is new and life-giving, we are all God's people, God is always present, and we are challenged to live with generous and joyful hearts. When pain or illness interrupt our lives we deal with it. When happier times exist, we celebrate them."

All is a gift! What a journey!

A blessing Sr. Julaine would like to share: My blessing for you is that you will remember, no matter what your call in life, that we are all God's people. We all have dignity and deserve to receive respect and show respect to everyone. May this belief guide you throughout your life.

Reading 1  Hosea 11:1-4, 8e-9

Thus says the LORD:
When Israel was a child I loved him,
out of Egypt I called my son.
The more I called them,
the farther they went from me,
Sacrificing to the Baals
and burning incense to idols.
Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
who took them in my arms;
I dre...
