November 2-3, 2024
Dear parishioners,
As you remember, we recently took up a collection for Catholic Charities’ relief efforts for those affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton. As such, I would like to thank everyone for the tremendous response. The collection itself brought in $5,949; I decided to add $1,051 from the parish’s Mission Fund, bringing the total to an even $7,000 that Divine Mercy forwarded to Catholic Charities. I think this is impressive! Thank you again for your support of Catholic Charities important ministries!
I would also like to offer a special word of thanks to the Walmart in Defiance for donating $2,400 to purchase two new Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) for our school. Within the last few months, the Ohio legislature updated its laws governing AED’s in schools and recreational facilities. At that point, we were notified that we would need to buy new ones for our school to be compliant with the new laws. Thank you, Walmart, for your continued support of our school!
With All Souls Day (Nov. 2) this weekend, remember to offer some prayers for the souls in purgatory. Remember also that there is a plenary indulgence attached to making a prayerful visit to a cemetery within the days of November 1-8. This particular indulgence can only be applied to souls in purgatory. The Church’s Manual of Indulgences also clarifies that this indulgence may be obtained on any and each day November 1-8. To obtain a plenary indulgence, one must perform the prescribed work (in this case, making a prayer visit to a cemetery between November 1-8) and must make a sacramental confession, receive Communion, and pray for the intentions of the pope. A single sacramental confession suffices for multiple indulgences, if many indulgences are sought within a short period of time. Also, the requirement to pray for the intentions of the Holy Father can be fulfilled by praying one Our Father and one Hail Mary, but one is free to choose a different prayer to fulfill this requirement. Again, all of this information comes from the Church’s official Manual of Indulgences. If you have any questions in this regard, please feel free to ask.
Blessings,
Fr. Ammanniti
